Chapter 1. RED COLOUR LIPSTICK

Sunset village, cozy and quiet, was famous for its garden lover villagers. In the morning, Mrs. Elena Smith woke up and went to check her own beautiful garden. She was a petite older lady, over 55, with slightly grey-brown hair, which she liked to put in a bun. She had green eyes, thin eyebrows, and a natural blush on her cheeks. Gardening became an everyday tradition since her husband passed away; it was her only consolation. Mrs. Elena loved three things in her life: gardening, her garden (which had won numerous awards and was the most beautiful in the whole village), and her gorgeous fluffy ginger cat named Ginger (thoughtful, isn't it?).

However,  today her bush looked slightly different. She noticed that her bush was ruined, someone trampled on her big flowers, and she started screaming out loud. Mrs. Elena raised her hands to the sky, exclaiming,

"Oh Saint Dwarfs! Look at what someone did to my piece of gardening art! Look at what people did to my perfect dahlia! Why did you allow it? Oh no!"

Unfortunately, that wasn't the only thing that broke her heart that day. Mrs. Elena noticed a ginger fluffy tail under the bush.

"Oh, dear! Is it..." Mrs. Elena could barely stand on her feet, seeing the lifeless body of her Ginger lying under her dahlia.

"Killers! Killers! How could they? You were such an angel! My sweet Ginger, my cleverest cat ever existed!"

Upon her scream, came one of her neighbors, her best friend Lucy Bailey. She was a curvy lady with brown eyes and short dark brown hair. Lucy was a true housewife, who took care of 3 cows, 10 chickens, and 25 geese. She and her husband, Mr John Bailey, a well-known butcher, owned a big farm in the village. Despite her hard work, Lucy always looked fashionable, and an important part of her outfits was a hat in the color of her dresses.

"What happened, my sweetheart? I heard your scream," politely asked Mrs. Bailey when she stepped onto the green yard.

"Oh, Lucy, it's a disaster! Someone ruined my dahlia bush. You know this was the biggest bush in the whole village. Even my sister was jealous!"

"Oh dear! Your bush was grand! I am so sorry for you, my sweet."

"But, moreover, someone killed Mr. Ginger!!!!"

"What? Who?" - Lucy tried to hide her happiness.

"My cat Ginger. My lovely fluffy lump of happiness," Mrs. Elena started crying and fell on her knees next to her dead cat.

"Oh, this is a CATastrophe, oh sorry, I meant…” - Lucy tried to console, but Mrs. Elena started crying even harder.

“My dear, oh, stop crying. I am sure you will take good care of your bush, and next week it will bloom and smell nicely. And the cat," Lucy stopped herself, trying to choose the right words. "I am sure that the person who did it was heartless!"

"You are right. We need to find the killer! I am calling the police!"

Sunset village was quite small, so in 5 minutes on her yard came policeman Mr. Neil Brown, with his young helper, brunette boy, Thomas Williams.

"Good morning, Elena, what happened?- worried Mr. Brown asked Mrs. Elena,"I received your call and immediately came to check!"

"Oh, Neil, you are just in time, you should see this terrible crime! My honor, my beautiful dahlia bush, see how awful it looks now!" With full drama, said Mrs. Smith.

Mrs. Brown looked at her, trying to hide her smile, and said:

"Dear, but you always tell us that dahlias should have their own style, aren't you? Maybe, this was their time to change their appearance?" - he finally smiled with a corner of his mouth.

"Oh Neil, you don't understand! This is a true crime against aesthetics and garden harmony! This is very serious for the whole village!"

She covered her face with a small napkin and started crying.

"And this is not over, look here." Elena, with the policeman, bypassed the bush, and she pointed to the ginger tail.

"My beloved cat was killed with special cruelty!" - she said confidently, " I am sure, it was a murder!"

"Oh, a dead cat, how serious," - grumbled young policeman Thomas and rolled his eyes, "I expected something more serious today".

However, Mr. Brown started to check the cat's body in details.

"Look here Tom (no need to say that Thomas hated this abbreviation), the cat's mouth is in a red substance, what is it?"

"Maybe, he just caught a poor mouse and accidentally died. What else can it be?" answered Thomas in a sarcastic way.

"And what will you say now?" - the mature policeman took his hand up; in his hand, he held an empty lipstick tube.

"See!," Mrs. Elena screamed in anger. "This is a crime! Someone wanted to kill my cat!"

"I am afraid, my dear, someone tried to kill not the cat, but you."- said Brown.

"What are you talking about? No one could, everyone loves me!

" Are you sure Mrs. Smith?"- asked Thomas, "everyone have enemies".

"Well, my sister was jealous of my dahlia, and your dog," she pointed at Lucy Bailey, "always hated my cat!,” - said Mrs. Elena.

"A thoroughbred French bulldog! He is very kindhearted, and definetely couldn't kill your cat" - said Lucy, and then murmured less loudly,  "Even if your street cat was noisy, dirty, and always bothered my clever boy HEIMISH."

"Oh, wait a second, I recognize this lipstick! - screamed Mrs. Smith, "Cunning postman Betts brought it yesterday for me! Oh, I always knew he is a bad person!"

"Boss, look!", said Thomas, pointing on the ground next to the bush, "We have a big footprint here, approximately 10 inches."

"Yes, boy, seems we have a real crime happened here," he turned to Mrs. Elena, "And you, dear, better be careful now."

"You need to have a good interrogation with this killer Bets!" - said Elena to the policeman.

Mrs. Bailey shook her head in agreement, "Yes, yes definetely!".

The policemen took the lipstick tube and the cat's saliva for the test, politely farewelled, and again warned:

- "Inform us about every post you receive."

 - "But what should I do with my cat? And what about my dahlia?"

 - "We are very sorry about your loss," Mr. Brown carefully stroked his back, "But now you should seriously take a good care of your own life."
